It was a night like no other. When a Vietnamese choir sings during holy Mass one enters the heavenly realm and senses the Kingdom of Heaven breaking through. Sister Kim Hoa Ha, Sister Tuyet Anh Bui and Sister Minh Hoang Mai of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Queen of Peace, Bonner, renewed their vows on Sunday 2 February 2020 during the Mass of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus in the Holy Temple.
Community team leader, Sr Kim Hoa Ha, welcomed His Excellency the Most Rev Adolfo Tito Yllana, Papal Nuncio to Australia, dignitaries and guests and said the nuns were inspired in in their mission by the words of the prophet Isaiah - ‘How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring Good News, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion - “Your God reigns.” ‘(Isaiah 52:7). Sr Kim Hoa Ha said the charism of the Sisters of Mary Queen of Peace is to live the Gospel, provide education, help orphans and disabled, visit prisoners and people in crisis, heal the sick, bury the dead, and provide an opportunity for Sisters from Vietnam to learn English and undertake further study.
The Mass was celebrated by the Papal Nuncio, concelebrated by Rev Fr John Armstrong, Msgr Emmanuel Fadeyi from Nigeria and Msgr Giuseppe Quirighetti from Italy. Archbishop Yllana said the Mass of the Presentation of our Lord was a very appropriate day for the Sisters’ Feast Day and renewal of vows. This was because the elderly man present in the temple, Simeon, who recognized Jesus as the Messiah, as did Anna the prophetess, and the Holy Family, each in their own way exemplified aspects of the Sisters’ vows of obedience, poverty and chastity.
The Mass and renewal of vows was followed by a buffet dinner and Vietnamese Cultural Performance at the Sisters’ house in Bonner.
